Katie Hagar, 23, hails from Damariscotta, Maine, but moved to Sacramento, Calif., in 2008 to be closer to All-American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. She’s now back on the East Coast, ready to make her mark on late model racing in North Carolina.
Hagar began racing go-karts at age 11. In 1999, she earned the Southern Maine Karting Inc. (SMKI) Rookie of the Year title at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. Hagar continued racing with the SMKI for three more years before she transitioned to the New England Allison Legacy Series (NEALS). That season, Hagar finished second in the NEALS championship points standings, just 20 points out of first place. Hagar tallied five wins in the 2003 season, and was the first female to win a race at Canaan (N.H.) Fair Speedway.
Hagar began racing in the New England Pro All Star Series in 2005. In 2006, she was the runner-up for Rookie of the Year at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. In 2007, she was the only female competitor in the Pro All Star Series in New England.
The 2008 season was Hagar’s first with the Drive for Diversity program, racing in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. After a solid season, Hagar was invited to participate in the program again in 2009. She earned one pole, four top fives and seven top 10s. She also set the track qualifying record at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway.
Hagar is a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Make a Wish Foundation, and is looking forward to working with the Parents of Murdered Children Foundation. When she’s not racing, Hagar enjoys traveling, fishing, snowboarding, four-wheeling and working out.
Hagar says she’s a competitive person, always striving to be the best. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and pitches in at the shop every chance she gets.
